RCB's Energy Boost Ahead of IPL Resumption
New Delhi [India], May 17: Mo Bobat, the Director of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), shared insights about the team's enthusiasm during their practice session as the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 prepares to continue.
On Monday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed the restart of the 18th season of IPL 2025, unveiling the schedule for the remaining 17 matches.
The BCCI had paused the lucrative league for a week due to rising tensions between India and Pakistan.
Bobat remarked, “The past few days were quite unusual for everyone involved. Personally, I had a lot to manage, making it a hectic time. For many of our players, however, it turned out to be a well-deserved break. Several of them took the opportunity to return home and spend time with their families, even if just for a short while, before rejoining the team. Interestingly, we noted yesterday that the players arrived with a lot of energy for practice. Overall, the group seems to be in a great state, which is encouraging,” during the pre-match press conference.
He also addressed the challenges posed by the unexpected extension of the IPL season.
“I believe all teams faced similar issues. Once players return home and the schedule is pushed back, it introduces a level of uncertainty. We had extensive discussions with our overseas players even before they left. Most expressed a strong desire to return and complete the season,” he explained.
“We’ve had a solid season thus far, and they are eager to continue. However, the season's extension has brought its own set of challenges. I had to engage in discussions with some national team governing bodies. Notably, we will lose Jacob Bethel and Lungi Ngidi after a few matches, which will certainly have an impact,” he added.
The IPL is set to resume today, May 17, with RCB facing off against the reigning champions, Kolkata Knight Riders, at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
Currently, RCB holds the second position in the points table, boasting eight wins and three losses from 11 matches, while KKR stands sixth with five victories and six defeats in 12 matches.
